Corey Kiner
Kiner is a depth back and kick returner who got a short-term boost from the Henderson injury and who earned some late-game trust against the Jets. Nothing I found says he has moved ahead of Stevenson or Henderson.
Role
Boston Globe snap counts (Oct 20) have Kiner at 12 offensive snaps vs the Jets. The Globe called him the third-string back, and he returned three kickoffs. Rotowire/CBS (Oct 13, citing ESPN's Mike Reiss) had him moving to RB2 behind lead back Rhamondre Stevenson, with TreVeyon Henderson (high-ankle sprain) expected to miss multiple weeks. Yet Henderson had 8 carries in the Jets game, so I can't confirm his current status. The Patriots could also use Lan Larison, a practice squad back, as another option. Kiner's 2026 line per ESPN/CBS is 31 carries for 138 yards and 2 catches for 16 yards. I did not read the team's depth chart.
Kiner led New England with 57 yards on 11 carries against the Jets, including eight straight runs on a 13-play, 6:08 drive. Coach Mike Vrabel said the staff wanted to ride the "hot hand" and praised how hard he runs. Chowder and Champions argues he has earned a bigger role, noting that Stevenson managed 36 yards on 14 carries.
Most of his work came in clock-killing situations with the game well in hand, and the Globe said he had little offensive role before that final drive. He fumbled on his first carry against the Raiders. Before the Jets game he had 20 carries, and Henderson's return would push him back down the depth chart. Even the optimistic writer says he is not the lead back and calls the sample small.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether the Jets drive was a one-off hot-hand call or the start of a bigger share. That depends partly on Henderson's return timeline, which I couldn't confirm, and on whether Stevenson keeps the lead role. The only voice pushing for more work is a fan-site column, while Vrabel's comments don't commit to anything.
