Devin Singletary

Consensus #114 · RB41Week 9: at PHI, 17th vs RBUpdated Oct 20

Singletary is a fluid committee back for the Giants: he was a healthy scratch for two straight games earlier this season, then led the backfield in snaps in Week 6, and nothing yet shows that will last.

Role

NBC Sports (Oct 18) has him at 31 snaps in Week 6, the most among Giants RBs in a pass-heavy script. It calls the backfield a messy committee. It says he and Tyrone Tracy look like the preferred passing-down options, with Tracy preferred in higher-leverage situations. Cam Skattebo (6 snaps in that game per Fox/Rotowire) and Najee Harris are the other backs. Singletary was inactive as a coach's decision in Weeks 3 and 4 (Rotowire, Fox). In Week 2 he had 15 offensive snaps, second behind Skattebo's 34 and ahead of Harris's 8 (Fox). Our wire note has four carries for 14 yards and one target for 19 yards in Week 6. I found no firm snap or touch split beyond that game.

The case for

He led the room in snaps when the game script turned pass-heavy, and NBC Sports says he is worth a waiver claim. He and Tracy are the preferred passing-down options. The team says carries are earned, and Harbaugh's message was that backs must "do something" with their chances. Singletary also led the team in snaps in the second-half comeback attempt, per one secondary write-up.

The case against

The Week 6 snap lead came from the game script, not a role change. He sat out two straight weeks as a healthy scratch before it. Tracy gets the higher-leverage work, Skattebo is the top option, and Harris was signed to be a significant contributor. His 2025 efficiency was the worst of his career at 3.7 yards per carry. Preseason reporting had him as the No. 3 back.

Where analysts split

The question is whether the Week 6 snap lead is a lasting passing-down role or a one-game result of a pass-heavy script. NBC Sports itself says it is unclear what the backfield will look like going forward, and Week 7 against the Texans is the next test. Sources also differ on Tracy's standing, but I found no source arguing for Singletary as the lead back.

Research confidence: thin. Outlooks are grounded in web search over current reporting and refreshed through the season.
