Kendre Miller
Miller is the Saints' lead early-down runner for now, with Travis Etienne on injured reserve, but he shares a changing committee and his role has moved from week to week.
Role
In the Week 6 win over the Giants, Athlon's snap table shows Miller with 32 snaps (44%) and Kamara with 19 (26%). Miller had 20 carries for 70 yards and CJ Donaldson had 6 carries for 39 yards (Yahoo). Kamara had 7 carries for 34 yards and 2 catches for 35 yards and a touchdown. NBC/Rotoworld had Kamara as the third back into the game, and the Yahoo piece says Donaldson led the backfield in snaps in Week 5 while handling pass protection. Miller's receiving work is small: two targets in Week 6 and one in Week 5. Heavy, citing Ourlads, listed Miller as RB1 before Week 6. I did not read the Saints' own depth chart.
Etienne is on IR (Heavy said at least a few more weeks), and the Saints gave Miller 20 carries and the start in Week 6. Athlon's headline calls him the lead back ahead of Kamara. Kamara's back issue held him to a season-low 12 snaps in Week 5 and he was third into the game in Week 6. If that continues, Miller keeps the early-down and goal-line work, as with his touchdown run against Minnesota.
The usage has been unstable all year. Miller was a healthy inactive in Week 2, was third in snaps against Minnesota, and then carried 20 times in Week 6. Yahoo's pre-game start/sit piece says Donaldson led the Week 5 snaps and handled pass protection. Kamara still scored on a 31-yard catch and took the work that fits his receiving role. Miller has caught only one of his last few targets for real yardage. Etienne is expected back eventually. Yahoo's preseason profile also called Miller often injured and a free agent after this season.
Where analysts split
The open question is whether Week 6 was a durable promotion or a one-week game script. Athlon reads the snaps as Miller taking over the lead job. Kamara's back health, Donaldson's pass-protection snaps, and Etienne's eventual return could each split the work again. Heavy and Yahoo both describe a committee that changes week to week.
