NBC Sports' Week 5 piece (a search result I did not open, with an unclear date) says the Patriots have averaged 7.8 fantasy points per game, 8th among defenses. It lists CB Christian Gonzalez and DT Christian Barmore as questionable for that game, and says the defense did well against Buffalo without them. NBC's preseason tiered rankings (about 53 days old) had New England 8th and noted Zak Kuhr was promoted from interim defensive coordinator. They also listed additions of Dre'Mont Jones and Kevin Byard, second-round pick Gabe Jacas, and Harold Landry once he is able to play. I did not read a current depth chart or injury table.
The 7.8 points per game ranks 8th among defenses. The unit beat a good Bills offense while missing Gonzalez and Barmore. The offseason additions and the Kuhr promotion add to that. A FantasyPros item says the unit scored a punt return touchdown and allowed 15 points in a Monday night win over the Giants, but I could not date it and it may be from last season.
