Rachaad White
White is a pass-catching back in a three-man Washington backfield. He had his biggest role of the season in Week 6, while lead back Jacory Croskey-Merritt was out with a groin injury.
Role
White's Week 6 line was 11 touches on seven carries and four catches, and he led the backfield in touches. NBC Sports said he split work with Jeremy McNichols and Austin Ekeler. Before that he was the RB2 behind Croskey-Merritt, and FantasyPros (published 9 days ago) listed him as a high-end RB3. The one snap split I found is from Week 2 (Sept 14): Croskey-Merritt 33, White 27 and Kaytron Allen 6 of 67 plays. Allen was later waived. I found no current snap share or target share. Washington's bye is Week 7, and I did not read a depth chart.
White is the most well-rounded back on the roster, and Dan Quinn praised his pass catching in the offseason. While Croskey-Merritt is on injured reserve, White has the lead-back touches and a share of the receiving work. He already has two receiving touchdowns this season. RotoBaller called him a plug-and-play streamer for Week 6, and FantasyPros' consensus ranking has him at RB25 for Week 8.
The workload is crowded and the efficiency is poor. NBC Sports called the three-way split among White, McNichols and Ekeler troubling, and FantasyData cited low volume and inefficiency. He had only seven touches in Week 5 and 27 rushing yards in Week 6. Washington's offense also struggled in the first half against San Francisco, with 17 plays and 90 yards. When Croskey-Merritt returns, White likely drops back to the complement role.
Where analysts split
The open question is how much of the backfield White keeps with Croskey-Merritt on injured reserve. RotoBaller and FantasyPros treat him as the primary back or a high-end RB3. NBC Sports and CBS see a committee in which Ekeler and McNichols keep real work. A second question is when Croskey-Merritt returns. I found no return timetable.
