NBC Sports' Week 7 DST rankings (published about a day ago) put San Francisco 14th and describe the unit as 8th-best in fantasy so far. The same piece says the 49ers lead the league in explosive-play rate allowed, are 3rd in points allowed per game and are 4th in first downs allowed per game. Their Week 7 opponent was Atlanta, with an implied team total of 23. I did not find a depth chart or snap data, and I did not read the 49ers' injury report.
The underlying defensive numbers are strong. NBC Sports says the unit leads the league in explosive-play rate allowed, ranks 3rd in points allowed per game and 4th in first downs allowed per game. It also ranks 8th in fantasy production despite what the writer calls big injuries. Getting Bosa back would raise the pass-rush ceiling.
The unit has not been a great fantasy defense, and NBC Sports puts it in its third tier. Good yardage and points numbers don't reliably produce sacks and takeaways. Bosa was expected back for Week 7 but did not return, according to NBC's Saturday update. One FantasyPros blurb, which I could not date, flagged a lack of sacks as worth monitoring.
