The depth behind him is badly thinned. Tank Bigsby, his top backup for two years, is on injured reserve after core muscle surgery, with a hoped-for return in about six weeks or less (ESPN). Will Shipley, the passing-down back, started Week 5 but left in the first half after five carries, and ESPN reportedly says he has a partial plantar fascia tear that will keep him out multiple weeks (Yahoo). Dameon Pierce and Carson Steele were promoted from the practice squad. Yahoo says Jaydon Blue could be the next call-up. If Barkley returns, he likely faces little competition for carries, but I found no reporting on a snap limit or workload plan.
