Committee back alongside Stevenson. Stevenson remains the bigger early-down/short-yardage body; Henderson's value is concentrated in third downs, two-minute work, pass protection/receiving snaps and explosive perimeter runs. Expect a snap share in the rough 40-55% band with touches split rather than dominant, and note that reporting before the injury suggested he had lost some ground to Stevenson in the pecking order. Behind them the depth (JaMycal Hasty, Lan Larison, Hassan Haskins, Jam Miller) is not a threat to his role — Stevenson is the only real competition for the work.
He is the explosive element in this backfield: he broke long runs regularly as a rookie, is a legitimate receiver and pass protector, and New England's stated intent is to feature him. If the coaching staff leans into his third-down and two-minute usage, he gets the highest-leverage snaps in the offense and only needs a moderate touch count to produce, because his yards-per-touch and receiving usage do the work.
He has not been handed the job. Stevenson is still there, still gets the goal-line and grind-it-out work, and the split has repeatedly trended toward committee rather than a Henderson takeover. A back at roughly half the snaps with a shared red-zone role has a low floor in any given week, and soft-tissue/lower-leg issues are exactly the kind of thing that leaks snaps back to the veteran while he's managed.
