Tyler Goodson

Consensus #211 · RB69Week 9: at IND, 14th vs RBUpdated Oct 20

Goodson is a low-usage RB2 behind Javonte Williams, and he matters for fantasy only if Williams or Emari Demercado gets hurt.

Role

Fantasy aggregators (FantasyData, citing RotoBaller) and an A to Z Sports piece from about four days ago call him the clear RB2 behind Williams. In his Cowboys debut in Week 3 against the Ravens he played 11 offensive snaps (15%), with six carries for 22 yards and one target that lost five yards. A FantasyData note says he got no carry or target in a later loss to Tampa Bay. The same page lists three rushes and one target in a game, but the snippet doesn't make clear which game. Rotowire shows nine carries for 34 yards on the season and no touchdowns. Competition is Demercado, who was a healthy scratch in Week 3 by coach's decision, and Israel Abanikanda, who was reported on the practice squad. Malik Davis is on season-ending injured reserve. Special teams, including returns, is his other likely contribution. I did not find his current snap share beyond Week 3, and I did not read Dallas's depth chart.

The case for

Davis's injury cleared the path to RB2. Goodson has 4.42 speed and is described as elusive and capable as a receiver. He also gives Dallas special teams value, so he's on the active roster. If Williams went down, the reporting says an injury to the top backs could elevate him, and his pass-catching profile would suit a change-of-pace role.

The case against

He plays almost no offense: 11 offensive snaps in his first game with Dallas, and by one report no touches in a later game. Reports describe his pass protection as the weakest part of his tape and say he lacks power. Demercado and Abanikanda are still in the room. The Cowboys also don't rotate backs much, so RB2 is a thin job. Yahoo's early read was that he would see offensive snaps only if Williams or Demercado got hurt.
