Week 2 Injury Report: Nico Collins and Zay Flowers Are Coin-Flips
Thursday's read on every Week 2 designation: who's out, who's a routine start, the true game-time decisions and the pivot at each.
Trending out — cross them off
A.J. Brown is on IR with a right high-ankle sprain and about a six-week timeline, per Rapoport. That pushes past Week 6 eligibility into late October. Don't hold a bench spot hoping.
Sam Darnold is confirmed out — Macdonald said the glute injury keeps him from playing at Arizona, with a roughly four-week window. Drew Lock runs Seattle's offense. Josh Jacobs remains on the Commissioner's Exempt List with a possible suspension looming; this isn't an injury and it won't resolve on your timeline.
Also gone: Jordan Mason (IR, thumb, targeting late October), Dylan Sampson (IR, knee), Jordyn Tyson (IR, hamstring, return window near Week 5), Zach Charbonnet (reserve/PUP, ACL — can't return before Week 5), and De'Zhaun Stribling, who is expected to land on IR with an ankle injury.
Routine — start them and stop refreshing
George Kittle was limited Wednesday with the Achilles, and that's planned load management post-tear, not a setback. Wagoner's reporting says his game-day status isn't in question. Start him.
Joe Burrow has back tightness and threw on a limited basis Wednesday, but he told reporters he's playing at Houston. TreVeyon Henderson was a full participant with the ankle after missing the opener — he'll play, though the committee with Stevenson caps the ceiling. Alec Pierce fully practiced with the hand/wrist and is in the clear.
Lower down the same bucket: Jakobi Meyers (thumb) was limited but played through the identical issue in Week 1 and scored; Jalen Coker went from a boot Monday to limited Wednesday; Juwan Johnson and Eddy Pineiro both missed Wednesday with illness with two practices left. Cooper Kupp was limited with a back tweak and isn't in serious jeopardy — his target share was thin anyway.
Game-time decisions and the pivot
Nico Collins is the big one. He hurt the hamstring at Wednesday's practice, met with doctors, and Schefter says his Week 2 status is in jeopardy. Not serious long-term, but with barely any practice runway this is a coin-flip. If he sits, you need a true starter, not a Texans backup — Jaxon Smith-Njigba or Drake London if they're sitting on your bench.
Zay Flowers was a DNP Wednesday after aggravating the preseason hamstring and never returning to the Colts game; his coach called the status murky. Treat him as 50/50 and have Ja'Marr Chase or Amon-Ra St. Brown territory ready. Ladd McConkey (ribs from a Week 1 hit) didn't practice Wednesday either — ribs sap explosiveness, and he needs a Thursday or Friday session to be trusted.
Kyler Murray is only limited and still in concussion protocol; he needs independent clearance, and Wentz starting again is live. Pivot to Drake Maye or Caleb Williams rather than guessing. Brock Bowers' meniscus is described as "not overly serious" with a Week 2 return possible — hold, but have Trey McBride or Tucker Kraft on standby. RJ Harvey's limited estimate means he didn't practice at all; if he sits, Dobbins absorbs the passing work. D'Andre Swift and Kyle Monangai were both limited with no severity indicated. Michael Pittman's report is thin — a vague foot/leg tag with no practice detail I can verify.
Thursday night — locks first
Detroit at Buffalo, 00:15 UTC. Isiah Pacheco had back surgery Monday and is out roughly 12 weeks; Detroit's backfield is fully Jahmyr Gibbs, and there's no ambiguity to wait on.
Nobody else in this pool plays Thursday. Set the Lions and Bills pieces now — Gibbs and James Cook are clean — and you get the rest of the weekend to watch Friday practice reports.
