Week 5 Injury Report, Read: Who Sits, Who Starts, Who Waits
Thursday's read on every Week 5 designation: Barkley and DeVonta Smith trending out, Chase still in protocol, and the pivots if your questionable guys sit.
Trending out
Saquon Barkley (hamstring) did not practice Wednesday and is reported week-to-week after exiting on four snaps last week. If he sits at Jacksonville, Shipley and Pierce split the work. DeVonta Smith is the same story in the same offense: no practice Wednesday, nothing since Week 3, described as questionable at very best. He needs to mix into drills to play.
Lamar Jackson was a non-participant Wednesday with the ankle and Huntley took first-team reps; the coach's comments point toward him sitting Monday at Atlanta. Breece Hall is doubtful and did not practice, with Braelon Allen the lead back. D'Andre Swift missed practice with hip and knee issues and Chicago's backfield order is openly unresolved, which makes Kyle Monangai the more startable Bear even with fatigue from a 30-carry game. Caleb Williams will not practice at all this week.
Already gone: De'Von Achane (ACL, IR, season), Jaxson Dart (knee surgery, season), Jayden Reed, Alec Pierce, Jadarian Price, Jordan Mason, Travis Etienne, Jonathon Brooks. Josh Jacobs remains on the Commissioner's Exempt List with a possible suspension pending. A.J. Brown was seen without a limp Wednesday but is still on IR with no confirmation he has practiced; his listed expected return is October 22.
Routine: start them
Jayden Daniels practiced fully Wednesday with the left elbow and Quinn expects him to start. Tyler Shough was limited with a non-throwing hand injury and the team is not concerned. Brock Bowers was limited, but that reads as rep management after two strong games back from knee surgery, not a setback. Chris Olave simply had a rest day.
No designation and no concern: Bijan Robinson off 19-145-2 and a 66% snap share through three games, and Drake London, who caught five of six for 96 yards Monday. Start both Monday night.
Limited but trending fine: Mike Evans (ribs), who led San Francisco in targets and yards in Week 4; Zay Flowers (limited, listed foot); Isaiah Likely (knee/groin); Cam Skattebo (shoulder), who played 75% of snaps in Week 4; Quentin Johnston (chest); Jacory Croskey-Merritt (groin), whose ceiling is capped by Rachaad White on passing downs regardless.
Game-time decisions and the pivot
Ja'Marr Chase is still in concussion protocol and did not practice Wednesday; the reporting says he is up against it to clear. Have Nico Collins, CeeDee Lamb or Jaxon Smith-Njigba ready. Tee Higgins is worse than advertised: expected limited, instead a full DNP with groin and neck. Do not count on the Cincinnati stack.
Justin Jefferson says he is aiming to play; Friday's report is the signal. Jordan Addison did not practice at all with hamstring soreness after a 75-snap game, so Minnesota's pass game could be short two. Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs both missed Wednesday with hamstrings, a genuine double question in Washington. Malik Nabers did as much as he could and is sore. Pivots: Puka Nacua, Amon-Ra St. Brown, Drake London, Christian Watson.
Lighter calls: Jeremiyah Love (limited, ankle separate from the August sprain, timeshare with Allgeier), Ladd McConkey (foot, participation level unknown), Tony Pollard (DNP Wednesday but played through this last week), Rhamondre Stevenson (DNP, Henderson gets the work if he sits), Rico Dowdle (limited return from a dislocated toe, Warren the beneficiary), DJ Moore (not long-term per Schefter, Week 5 unclear). On Michael Pittman the reporting is thin: a foot issue, limited Wednesday, no clear diagnosis. I cannot call it.
Thursday night
Nothing to do here. No player in this week's designation pool is on a Thursday night game; the earliest kickoff among these is Philadelphia at Jacksonville on Sunday at 13:30 UTC, and the latest is Baltimore at Atlanta on Monday. Whether other Thursday games exist this week is not in the material I was given, so I will not pretend to have checked.
That buys you Friday. The Barkley, Smith, McLaurin and Diggs calls all turn on Thursday and Friday participation, and Chase on where he sits in the protocol stages. Set lineups after the Friday reports, not now.
Byes: Kansas City and Carolina. Rashee Rice's hamstring is called relatively minor and he could be ready after the bye; Jalen Coker is out with the quad, with Carolina hopeful for Week 6 against Philadelphia. Neither has been cleared.
