Week 5 Sunday: Chase and Jeanty Active, Jefferson a Coin Flip

Barkley, Smith, Dowdle and Hall are out. Chase, Higgins and Jeanty are active. Jefferson's pregame workout decides a lot of lineups.

Ruled out this morning

Saquon Barkley (hamstring) and DeVonta Smith (hamstring) are both inactive at Jacksonville. That game kicked at 13:30 UTC, so if you were waiting, you were waiting too long. Both carry an expected return date of 10/18.

Rico Dowdle is inactive with a toe injury. Jaylen Warren is the clear beneficiary of the Steelers' early-down work. Breece Hall (quad) is ruled out again, a third straight week, with Braelon Allen holding the lead role in New York.

Caleb Williams is technically questionable but is not expected to suit up at Green Bay; Bagent starts. Lamar Jackson (ankle) is out for Sunday night in Atlanta, with a "real chance" to return against Cleveland per Rapoport. Stefon Diggs is out with a hamstring after missing all three practices. Ladd McConkey is questionable on paper, but Schefter reports he is not expected to play against Denver; wait for the official inactive list about 90 minutes before the 20:05 UTC kick. Marvin Harrison is out, coach's decision. On IR: De'Von Achane (ACL, season), A.J. Brown, Jadarian Price, Travis Etienne, Alec Pierce, Michael Pittman. Rashee Rice and Jalen Coker are on bye.

Active, go ahead

Ja'Marr Chase cleared the concussion protocol and is active at Miami. Start him, no hesitation. Tee Higgins (groin/neck) is active too, so Cincinnati's passing game is whole.

Ashton Jeanty passed a pregame workout and is active at New England in his normal lead-back role. Rhamondre Stevenson is expected to play, which muddies the Patriots backfield with TreVeyon Henderson; Henderson is the RB1 only if Stevenson sits, and that is no longer the expectation.

Terry McLaurin is active but Garafolo reports workload restrictions. That is a downgrade, not a bench. No-designation clears: Malik Nabers, Chris Olave, D'Andre Swift (Monangai out, bigger workload), Cam Skattebo, Isaiah Likely, Brock Bowers, Mike Evans, Tony Pollard, Jeremiyah Love, Tyler Shough. Jayden Daniels starts per Dan Quinn. Zay Flowers is slated to play Sunday night, though Huntley under center caps the ceiling.

Justin Jefferson is the one real coin flip: a pregame workout decides it at New Orleans. He has not played since Week 3. Have a bench plan ready now.

The pivot by position

QB, if you lost Williams or Jackson: Josh Allen is the best healthy option in the pool. Tyler Shough is the volume play, full practice Friday and leading the league in attempts. Drake Maye and Joe Burrow follow.

RB, if Barkley, Dowdle or Hall cost you: Jahmyr Gibbs, Bijan Robinson, Christian McCaffrey, Jonathan Taylor and Derrick Henry head the healthy list. Omarion Hampton is the best plug-in if the top names are gone.

WR, if Jefferson fails the workout or Smith/Diggs/McConkey leave a hole: Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Puka Nacua are the top healthy names, then Amon-Ra St. Brown, Nico Collins and Drake London. Parker Washington is the deeper-league fill.

TE: Trey McBride and Colston Loveland lead the healthy group; Dalton Kincaid, Bowers and Likely are fine starts.

The late games

Inactives are not out yet for the 20:05 and 20:25 UTC windows. That covers McConkey against Denver, Jeremiyah Love and the Cardinals backfield against Detroit, and Mike Evans at Seattle. Love has no designation and Evans has none either, but neither has an official inactive list posted.

Sunday night in Atlanta (00:20 UTC Monday): Jackson is already out, Flowers is slated to play, and confirmation lands roughly 90 minutes before kickoff.

Monday night, Bills at Rams (00:15 UTC Tuesday): DJ Moore is questionable with an AC joint sprain. He missed the week's first two practices and returned limited Saturday. That one is genuinely unresolved and I do not know how it lands.
